East Java, located on the eastern part of Java Island in Indonesia, has a rich and diverse history dating back centuries. The region has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with evidence of early human settlements found in various archaeological sites.

One of the earliest known kingdoms in East Java was the kingdom of Kediri, which flourished from the 11th to the 13th century. It was followed by the Majapahit Empire, one of the largest and most powerful empires in Southeast Asia, which rose to prominence in the 13th century under the rule of King Hayam Wuruk.
